ARM Ad Types

Background

What is Atlas Rich Media?

Atlas Rich Media is a media platform that gives agencies a wide range of options when developing creative for their clients. Creative designers can build rich, highly interactive creative executions using the Macromedia Flash authoring tool. These ads are then trafficked through the Atlas system and can be served into a variety of publisher inventory, such as in-page banners, expanding banners, floating ads, or other over-the-page units.

Atlas Rich Media serves four format types

  • In-Page: An ad that resides in a fixed placement (banner space) on the publisher site.
  • Expanding: An ad that resides in a fixed placement (banner space) on the publisher site that is capable of expanding outside that placement and over page content.
  • Floating: An ad capable of displaying over page content but is not associated with any fixed banner space on the publisher's page.
  • Custom: An ad that combines expandable and floating behavior, or uses other unique features, such as floating ads that resolve into a banner space, page peel-backs, and roadblock ads.

All formats have advanced tracking, polite download, and audio/video capabilities and are served through Atlas Rich Media ad tags

Rotating Standard and Atlas Rich Media ads

  • In order to run both Atlas Rich Media and Standard ads you must make the “Creative Category” in the placement properties a TopLayer format (i.e., Expanding, Floating, or Custom TopLayer). You will be charged on what is served, not on the placement type. Atlas Rich Media also suggests that the delivery method is set to “JavaScript”.

Copying Ads

  1. Search Placements
  2. Search for the placements you would like to change and select all of them
  3. Hover over Assignment and select “View Ad Assignment Summary”. This will take you to the Ad Assignment Summary page.
  4. Edit the ad in question by selecting “Click Here to test” on the Ad Assignment Summary page.
  5. Make the necessary change to your ad, click save and close out of ad.
  6. Next hover over “options” of the placement you’d like to copy and select “Copy Positioning/Display”
  7. Select all of the ads you would like to copy and what you are copying (i.e., Positioning, Display Options or Survey Vendors) and click ok.
  8. Your ads will now all have the same Positioning, Display options, or Survey Vendor as the ad you copied.

Positioning Left Expanding Ads

  • All ads that expand left need to be positioned because Atlas Rich Media automatically anchors the panels to the top left corner of the alternate gif.
If creating a new ad:
  1. Go through the Rich Media Wizard as you normally do and when you get to step 6 “Position and Test” click on the “Position and Test button”
  2. When you see your alternate ad click the Full Ad button to play the ad. You will notice that the unit is not anchored over the alternate.
  3. In order to anchor the 160x600 ad over the alternate, if the floating panel is 360 pixels wide, you will need to position both the “banner” and “expand” phases -200 to the left and click "Save". That is, the width of the expand panel, minus the width of the alternate image.
If your ad has already been created:
  1. Go to “Search Ads” in Atlas and search for the ad that needs positioning
  2. When the ad comes up select “Click here to test”
  3. When the position and test loads select the “Positioning” tab
  4. When you see your alternate ad click the Full Ad button to play the ad. You will notice that the unit is not anchored over the alternate.
  5. In order to anchor the 160x600 ad over the alternate, if the floating panel is 360 pixels wide, you will need to position both the "banner" and "expand" phases -200 to the left and click "Save". That is, you want to shift it by the width of the expand panel, minus the width of the alternate image.

Positioning Floating Ads

If creating a new ad:

  1. Select “Floating Toplayer” in step 1 of the Rich Media Wizard
  2. After you select the creative from the drop down you will notice the height and width below the flash file. Write these dimensions down as you will need them for step 6 of the Rich Media Wizard.
  3. Go through the Rich Media Wizard as you normally do and when you get to step 6 “Position and Test” click on the “Position and Test button”
  4. When the position and test tool loads click the Full Ad button to play the ad. You will notice that the unit is not the correct size and is at 100%.
  5. In order for the ad to look correct, you will need to position all three phases “teaser”, “reminder” and “main”. The Size Type needs to be set at “Absolute” and we recommend that the Position Type is Anchored to the “Center” and
    click save and test again.
If your ad has already been created:
  1. Go to “Search Ads” in Atlas and search for the ad that needs positioning
  2. When the ad comes up select “Click here to test”
  3. When the position and test tool loads select the “Positioning” tab
  4. Under the Positioning tab click the Full Ad button to play the ad. You will notice that the unit is not the correct size and the Position Type is set to Relative and the size is at 100%.
  5. In order for the ad to look correct, you will need to position all three phases “teaser”, “reminder” and “main”. The Size Type needs to be set at “Absolute” and we recommend that the Position Type is Anchored to the “Center” and
    click save and test again.

Best Practices for Floating Ads that Resolve into a Leave Behind

  • All ads that start off floating and resolve into a leave behind should be set up as a “Custom TopLayer” ad
  • Please note: Custom TopLayer has a different price then Expanding and Floating so please check with Media Planner before creating this type of ad.
If creating a new ad:
  1. Select “Custom Toplayer” in step 1 of the Rich Media Wizard
  2. Go through the Rich Media Wizard as you normally do and when you get to step 6 “Position and Test” click on the “Position and Test button”
  3. When the position and test tool loads click the Full Ad button to play the ad. You will notice that the unit is not anchored to the alternate when it completes play.
  4. In order for the ad to look correct, you will need to position all three phases “teaser”, “reminder” and “main”. The Size Type needs to be set at “Absolute” and we recommend that the Position Type is Anchored to the “Center” for the
“Teaser” phase and Anchored to the “Alternate” for the “Reminder” and “Main” phase. When this is done, click save and test again.
If your ad has already been created:
  1. Go to “Search Ads” in Atlas and search for the ad that needs positioning
  2. When the ad comes up select “Click here to test”
  3. When the position and test loads select the “Positioning” tab
  4. When the position and test tool loads click the Full Ad button to play the ad. You will notice that the unit is not anchored to the alternate when it completes play.
