Using In-Stream Tag Builder

Overview of In-Stream Tag Builder

Serving Atlas In-Stream video requires various components to be utilized correctly. The In-Stream system was designed to coordinate these components through the use of specialized video ad tags. Since every publisher has their own way of serving video, these tags will be different for each publisher. To make certain the proper tags are generated for each publisher, Atlas In-Stream provides a tool for publishers to customize their video tags.

When an advertiser traffics an Atlas In-Stream ad, an email is sent to the publisher. This email contains information about the ad as well as a button that takes you to the In-Stream Tag Builder. Follow the instructions below for help on building your tags.

Quick Steps

1.) Enter the required information.

  1. Select a System: Atlas has partnered with certain video player systems. If your system is listed, Atlas is familiar with your video serving needs and can serve In-Stream videos using only one tag. If your system is not listed, select Atlas_Generic_MultiTags or contact Atlas In-Stream Video support for help.
  2. Customize your tag. For each different tag system, there are different options to customize the tag
  3. Examples of options are to set the video format or bitrate. Some systems may allow you to insert additional tracking beacons
  4. If an option is present, insert your cache-busting variable as prescribed by your ad serving system. Each tag style may have a different place to insert the cache-bust variable, but most of the time it is simply appended to the tag. A cache-buster is not required, but will result in a more accurate count of impressions and events.

2.) (Optional) Input cache-busting variable.

Input the publisher’s cache bust substitution token. This token will be incorporated into the In-Stream tag(s). The tag(s) will work if you leave this blank, but the serving and tracking will be much more reliable with cache-busting enabled.

3.) Click Generate.

Once you click Generate, your tag(s) will be displayed in the text box. Instructions for implementing the tag(s) will be displayed below the text box. You may further customize them if necessary. For example, if there was no place to add a cache-bust variable, you can do this manually right in the tag. Or perhaps you want to add code around the tag for your preferred default image.

4.) Copy Tags

Copy and paste the tag(s) into your publisher ad serving system per the instructions provided.

5.) (Optional) Repeat if needed

If you make a mistake, or need additional versions of the tag(s), you can change the settings and generate new tags. Remember to repeat any modifications you made manually after you click Generate.

6.) (Advanced) Build tags from an input ID

  1. If you have a separate Placement Identifier (aka: Site Alias) this can be input into this field and you can generate a working set of tags for that Placement.  The Placement will need to have Atlas In-Stream Ads assigned/matched to it in order for the tags to work correctly
  2. If an invalid input is entered into the Placement Identifier field, Tag Builder will generate tags that do not work or track (but will still return 1x1 pixels).
